Maui Rental Car Was Memorable

Friday, August 8th, 2008
by Jerry Blackburn

A friend of mine went to Maui. She had a great time. Has great memories. But you may be surprised to hear many of her memories were of her rental car. Learn from her experiences:

Now, renting a car seems to be a task you can do just about anywhere. If you have a phone, the internet and a credit card, it should be a piece of cake, right? Wrong!

If you’ve never been to Hawaii, you may not realize that Maui is different from being on the U.S. mainland. “Well, that’s the idea,” you may say. True, but when it comes to logistics, there can be problems. For example, Maui is a large island. My friend stayed on one side of the island, on the other end of the island from the rental company. She had to really plan out her departure date to make sure she had her car back in plenty of time and still make her connecting flight.

My friend also was disappointed that her dream vacation did not include driving her dream car. She had this fantasy of driving around Maui in a red sports car, like Magnum P.I. Well, when she got there, she found out there was a run on red sports cars that day. All the red sports cars were gone and the selection of rental cars is not the same as in the rest of the U.S. The only red car available was a red Pinto. She could have had a sports car, but when she saw how much more expensive it was, she decided a Pinto was nice, after all. (It costs more here than on the mainland car rentals.)

When she started planning her trip, she had heard that she should book her rental car early in order to get the one she wanted. There aren’t all that many cars available, she was told. She had blown off that advice, meaning to get to it later. Well, she didn’t and now she paid for it. See, another piece of advice she ignored was the bit about paying for the rental car early. That way, her red sports car would have been waiting for her and she wouldn’t have been stuck with the Pinto. The Pinto that broke down as she was pulling out of her hotel room on her way back to the rental place.

My friend also forgot to buy insurance and road service. It cost her a pretty penny to get road service and she had a hassle with the rental company when it came to settle up the bill at the end of the trip.

The rest of her trip? It was great, she said. But it wasn’t the same in a Pinto.

There are so many options these days when it comes to going on vacation and the amount of deals open to you can often be overwhelming. That is why it always pays to do a little research and look at all of your options instead of just choosing the cheapest deal offered to you.

Benefiting From Travel Deals

It is entirely possible to benefit from the various travel deals available. However, it will take a little time and effort to find the bets deal to suit you. You may find it helpful to look at reviews for example, which will tell you all about the different travel deals available and whether they were all that they were cracked up to be. The best thing about a review is that they are usually really informative and they are written by people who have actually taken advantage of the various deals available.

No matter where you are touring to, you will always find a travel deal to suit you. You just have to look at your budget and know what you are looking for with your next holiday. If you have some idea of where you want to go and what you want to do then it will narrow your search down when it comes to finding the right deal to suit you. Or you could simply just look at the deals available at the time when you want to travel and choose one that way; it will just take you a longer period of time to do it that way.

There are a number of ways in which you can benefit from travel deals. One good way of saving yourself a little money is through booking your tickets directly. If you book them from the hotel or airline direct you can save up to $35. Also if you purchase all the tickets that you need together then you could further save money as you can often get a discount for buying more than one ticket at a time.

Package vacations are one of the best ways to save money as everything is included in the price. When you book separately you do pay more, whereas with a package deal you get discounted on various things including accommodation and with activities. If however you are planning a trip that is a little more complicated, you could actually benefit from the use of a travel agent. They know all of the tricks of the trade to save you money and they will also be able to save you a lot of time too.

Finally choosing the right time to travel and comparing your options are definitely advised. There are certain times of the year which are classed as ?off peak? which basically means that you will not have to pay as much as you would if you were travelling in peak season. Summer is usually a peak season as that is when most people do their travelling. Also, by looking online and comparing different companies, you could potentially save a lot of money on your vacation.

Overall there are a number of ways in which you can save a lot of money when planning for your next vacation. So do not just choose the first deal that you see; always make sure that the deal is right for you beforehand.

Pain before Pleasure: Planning a Vacation

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Jerry Blackburn

Deciding where to go for a relaxing vacation can actually be stressful in and of itself. And if you are a part of a couple, then reaching an agreement on where to go could get downright frustrating. The options can get overwhelming: there are European backpacking excursions, Serengeti safaris and Adventure cruises to choose from. Planning ahead and being organized can go a long way in a vacation search. Write down a list of the places where you think you would get the most relaxation and pleasure out of visiting. You could even seek the advice of a travel agent and seek information, negative and positive, about a potential vacation spot.

After the initial search and research, you should place the vacation spot options in order of the best to the worst. The negatives should play a really big part in your decision making process because something that may seem small will loom large once the vacation begins. So do not make oversights when it comes to what you foresee might be an issue on a trip. Make honest assessments.

Your budget should also wield a lot of influence over your vacation decision. Make sure to make decisions that will be financially sound and responsible. There is no sense in spending extravagantly for a relaxing vacation only to come back home from it stressed out over spending money that you did not have.

A working budget for a vacation should include an extra padding of money that is ?just-in-case? money. Because of the multitude of location options, a budget will determine whether or not a trip can be taken overseas or only within one?s native country. And after the bulk of money is spent on the expenses of the ticket to the destination, one must keep in mind that money will or might be needed for travel, food, doctor trips if necessary, and souvenir expenses. After comparing and contrasting the money that each type of trip might cost, one will gain more insight as to what will be worth the value of it.

The adventure travel vacation can take many forms because that is the nature of them: they are unconventional and carry a certain risk to them. That is wherein the thrill lies. You can kayak not far from glaciers in Alaska or you can go to South America to brave the rapids of the Amazon River instead. One can engage in such enthralling activities, or one can instead indulge in a location?s top-notch restaurants and plush offerings of its all inclusive hotels. It is all about what aspects of a vacation are most important to you.

Adventure Travel cruises provide something that a stay in a luxury hotel in a place like Europe does not have: options. If you pick an Egyptian cruise on the Nile, your room is not stationary. Instead, the pyramids are suddenly outside your window and you are able to go explore and photograph them with a guide leading the way. An ecological tour is what you will find where rain forests are ventured into on an Amazon River cruise. Adventure cruises give a traveler choice and easy access to the destinations they desire. That is why it is important to think thoroughly about what you want out of adventure travel excursion so as to get the most out of it.

However, you would instead opt for the luxury hotel in any one of them offered across Europe. But you will have to think about what type transportation you will use that is the most financially sound and which destinations to visit. That is what a cruise can offer you: access to the best, little known and seen sights that a stay at a luxury hotel might not yield. My family stayed at an all inclusive hotel in Benidorm on our last vacation.

Planning your vacation and the locations you want to visit is not a challenge because all you have to do is sit and write and organized itinerary. But finding the right travel package could be difficult as you might not know all of the venues that could provide the exact trip you want. A travel agent could give you the sources that will lead you to the best deals for exactly what you want. Or become a member of a travel club member which should offer information and resources that you can research yourself. The Better Business Bureau, friends/relatives, and the Chamber of Commerce are where you can find information and leads on dependent travel agents in and around your local neighborhood.

This happens for the reason that basically any airfield is regarded as a domestic airport only.

An international airport is an airport where flights come from other countries to US soil as well as flight from the US goes to another nation. Even though the advertisement shows the information that they focus on international air travel, but in reality most international airports not just have international flights, but also domestic airlines too. Visitors Health Insurance-For Backpackers

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008
by C. Ray Sondeo

When you go abroad and plan to go for trekking and hiking, then you should have the visitor medical insurance or visitor health insurance for sure. If you are traveling on a budget, it is possible that you forget and ignore the possibility of risk of crime and injury that you may face due to the trips, slips, nips and bites of the wild. Enjoy nature to the fullest by taking the visitors health insurance while you go camping or trekking.

There are a number of cheap travel insurance policies and visitor health insurance or visitor medical insurance. They are specially tailored to cover a wide range of factors associated with traveling and can vary in the timescales as well. You simply need to choose the policy that suits your needs like the time for which you are traveling and the visitor insurance that you will need.

There are a number of factors that you need to consider before you take the visitor medical insurance or visitors health insurance when you get cracking with backpacking. Emergency medical cover helps you to cover all the costs in the event of you requiring medical assistance. Rescue and repatriation helps to cover the costs in the event of a medical emergency rescue.

Baggage and possessions cover an essential part that helps you to cover you for valuables that are lost, stolen or damaged during the trip. Also check whether the admin costs should your passport need to be reissued. The personal money option provides compensation cover for any misplaced cash or travelers’ cheques even though the coverage offered here is low.

The personal liability option of the visitor insurance provides you with legal cover for any ill fated incidents which may also harm other people around you. The holiday cancellation option gives you compensation if for any reason your trip is canceled. The travel delay option gives you the compensation for a delayed departure although it may apply for a certain amount of time. You should be on a lookout for these policy options before you apply for the visitor medical insurance or visitor health insurance when you go for treks and hikes.

It is very essential for you to get a medical check-up done before you leave for any foreign trip to ensure that you take proper precautions during your traveling. Most of the times, the visitors insurance does not take the responsibility for the existing conditions. You can avail of the policy benefits regarding the condition, if you inform about your conditions to the insurance company. All the backpackers should have the visitors insurance, which can protect them from huge medical expenses and avert financial crisis. You may have to pay lot of dollars in case of hospitalization. All Inclusive Cruises: Are They Really All Inclusive?

by Scott Jeffries

The cruise industry is growing every year. More people are taking to the seas for adventure and relaxation. The nice thing about a cruise ship is that it helps you to slow down and take life more casually, because you aren’t racing to get to some destination. Cruising is all about the journey. While the destination may be memorable, even more memories will probably be made on board the ship.

One thing that makes people hesitant to book a cruise for the first time is the idea of having to schedule all the legs of the journey: airline tickets, hotel reservations, entertainment, and sight-seeing options. That is when all inclusive cruises become a viable option. These cruise packages are put together for people who just want to go and don’t want to worry about the details.

Some Advantages and Disadvantages of All Inclusive Cruises

The primary advantage of all inclusive cruises, as mentioned above, is that all the planning is taken care of for you, right down to the times and places you will stay and eat and be entertained. This is ideal for some people. Often we become so stressed having to make multiple decisions in our daily lives; it is nice to leave the decision-making to someone else once in a while. All-inclusive cruises normally mean that your lodging, food and entertainment options are all included in the price of the cruise.

There are, however, disadvantages to all inclusive cruises. Some of these include the fact that you may not have much choice in your meal options and anything extra, like snacks, or different, like special dietary needs; will need to be paid for separately. Alcohol is another consideration. Be sure you understand if your all inclusive cruise includes unlimited, limited or no alcoholic beverages. If you are planning to eat and drink to excess on your cruise this is an important consideration.

Also, your entertainment options may be limited on all inclusive cruises. It may not include the main attraction or the casino, but there should be some sort of entertainment provided.

When evaluating the value of an all inclusive cruise, these are all things to consider. Do some research on the Internet and be sure to shop around. Price the individual components separately, so you can see if you can save money and plan a more pleasant cruise on your own.

A Venice Must-See : Ca’ d’Oro - Palazzo Santa Sofia

The Golden House which is located in Venice is known for some of the most outstanding works of architecture in the area. The city is well renowned for this, and their claim to fame is truly deserved.

Venice enjoyed influences from the Middle East as well as throughout the continent when it comes to trade. Being a main European trade center, this has affected Venice’s architecture among other things, helping to make it a top cosmopolitan city.

Ca’ d’Oro was constructed during the 15th century and resides next to the main waterway of the town, the Grand Canal. After the mid 1400’s it served as home to the Contarini family who were one of the quasi-noble and respected families of the area. The family gave 8 of its number as Doges to Venice between the years of 1043 and 1676.

Once adorned in gold leaf, which helped give the building its name, the pink and white facade hold very little relevance to the Greek. A near floral design is present on the premises, the work of Giovanni Bon who was a well known architect during the time it was built.

Located in the colonnaded loggia accessible on the canal level, is the entrance to the premises. An astounding balcony located above the entrance is just outside the upper floor art gallery. With the gorgeous view outside, many are awe stricken when they find the view inside is even more impressive.

In a bustling city, peace can be found in the inner courtyard as long as the place isn’t too crowded with visionary visitors. While resting, an interesting sight not to miss is the wellhead, otherwise known as the vera di pozzo.

In one room 16th century Flemish tapestries can be found. In another room a collection of 12th through 16th century bronzes are on display, and nearly every time period tells a story through the furniture found on the premises.

Paintings fabulous enough to compete with those found in the Gallerie dell’ Accademia can be found here in the gallery. “San Sebastiano” and “Venus at the Mirror” by Titan are displayed, along with other paintings by well known artists such as Carpaccio and Tintoretto. The Dutch even landed in Venice, thanks to the works of Van Dyke and Jan Steen.

The Grand Canal in all its glory can be seen from the balcony outside, where breathtaking views abound. The Quatrefoil windows display intricate carvings worth taking a look at, so get close and personal when taking in all the sights on the balcony. Located on the second floor, the polychrome marble incrustations on the balcony should not be overlooked.

From this part of the gallery, it is easy to gain access to a room filled with intricate ceramics. Fit for the richest of the 15th century in Venice, kitchenware such as cups and plates can be viewed, offering the sense of what life was like during this time period for the wealthy.

The Golden House is a treasure that holds a good reason to visit Ca’ d’Oro, shorn of its gold exterior.
