Understanding Spinal surgery for Scoliosis

Friday, August 8th, 2008
by Tamera Beartoes

The human spine compromises a series of small bones called ‘vertebrae’, along with muscles and ligaments. The spine has a natural curve which extends from the front to the back but it shouldn’t curve towards the side too much. The side bend in the spine is known as scoliosis and takes on either a ‘S’ (double curve) or long ‘C’(single curve).

There are plentiful varied reasons of spinal curves. A number of babies are natural with spinal imperfections while some have nerve or muscle disorders. In common cases, the real reason of scoliosis is not identified. This type of scoliosis is termed as “idiopathic scoliosis” and has no recognized cause. There is not any eminent cure as well. It shows if you have scoliosis, nobody can do anything to prevent it. Scoliosis usually begins in the ages of 8 and 10. Scoliosis that is cruel enough to need cure is mainly frequent in girls.

Scoliosis frequently results no sign and symptoms in children till the spinal curve develops into large. There are plenty of noticeable signs which can easily be observed by the parents, doctors, orthopedists, scoliosis, orthopedic surgeon and nurses. These signs include patient’s one shoulder or hip looks elevated than the other. Patient waistline is plane on one side, or the ribs appear uppers on one side when a child twists frontward at the waist. On the other hand in adults, scoliosis may result in back pain and difficulty in breathing.

Light exercises can potentially have many health exercises apart from having any positive affect on scoliosis. Treatment of scoliosis with any known treatment can help in avoiding future problems. Adults that have slight or harsh scoliosis have increasingly bad curves along with severe back pain in the worst cases even trouble breathing. Treatment of the curve becomes critical in maturity and has a fewer success rate than treatment in childhood or teen period. Slight cases or easy cases of scoliosis frequently don’t require any treatment. Doctors need to check and test the curve of the patient’s spine every 4 to 6 months. In very serious conditions, or when bracing fails then its necessary to prepare for surgery.

Some curvatures do not respond to bracing therapy, if you have a curve like this, you will require surgery. However Scoliosis surgery procedures have various possible impediments which may compromise of heavy blood loss, paraplegia, and infection in the hip joints, degenerated tissues and even death.

Surgery complications for scoliosis include: Bleeding, Postoperative pain, Disc degeneration, Pseudoarthrosis, Low back pain, Nerve damage, and Allergic reactions.

The treatment of scoliosis without surgery i.e. exercises and braces treatments or techniques can also possible but it all depends on the position and scale (cruelty) of curve.

A physical therapy specialist can make a better assessment of your condition, muscle force and elasticity to make a suggestion for your home based plan which may be intended particularly for you or your patient.

Healthy Eating in the USA

Friday, August 8th, 2008
by Sara Mendez

Healthy lifestyle trends are popping up in many areas of this country. Many restaurants are offering healthier alternatives, fast food restaurants are disclosing nutritional information and public schools are ripping out soda machines and replacing them with water machines. Attitudes toward exercise are getting more positive, diet has been replaced by the phrase “healthy lifestyle” and the word “organic” is now understood by many. America has spoken, it is time for a change of lifestyle!

Popular restaurants and fast food chains are offering healthy substitutions for some of their most popular menu items. Wendy’s and Subway were some of the first to offer substitutions for children and adults. At Wendy’s a salad can replace fries for no extra charge. For a kid’s meal, parents can order their children a fruit cup and milk instead of fries and a soda. Subway also has raisins and apples in place of chips. Fatburger recently changed from vegetable oil to soy bean oil to fry their foods therefore reducing the amount of trans fat being served. Fatburger will also start using the leanest beef possible in all of their burgers and they are now offering a Boca patty (soy based meatless patty) substitute for all their burgers according to prleap.com. Even sit down restaurants such as Applebee’s are jumping on the band wagon by offering Weight Watcher friendly menu items.

In past years many restaurants did not disclose their nutritional information, but after a large public out cry, fast food and sit down restaurants relented. Now the nutritional information can be found anywhere from their internet websites, pamphlets in the place, or on the actual container such as McDonald’s fries carton.

Americans did not stop there, they went a step further and asked for schools to battle the bulge right a long with them. During the 2006-2007 school year, every district in America had a goal to obtain. This goal was to implement a better nutrition and increase activity levels according to aappolicy.org, and nearly every school accomplished this. Soda machines, snack machine and pizza were removed from every district from preschool to high school. They have been replaced by water, fruit and a salad bar. Kids can no longer sell junk food for clubs during school hours and all the cafeterias are required to serve balanced meals.

Organic has become a household name for many Americans. In the last ten years, local farmers have more than doubled. Organic products appeals to the new health conscious America on many levels. Consumers want to know where their food is coming form and if it has been chemically treated. When buying food from local farmers, it gives the consumer control and they can find out where the food has come from and what it has been exposed to. As a result many cities across America have local farmers markets which sell only organic foods.

Organic foods are also here to stay! In the last ten years, local farmers have more than doubled. Consumers want to know where their food is coming form and if it has been chemically treated. When buying food from local farmers, it gives the consumer control, they can find out where the food has come from and what it has been exposed to.

Flexitarianism is a new “diet” which is quickly on the rise with many Americans according to CNN.com. Dietitians are defining these dieters as those who eat mainly fruits and vegetables but also eat protein but only three days per week such as chicken, lean beef and fish. The other four days a week they eat meatless meals. It is a diet which is low in saturated fat and high in fiber. Those who follow this diet have lower risk of stroke, diabetes, and heart attack.

Over the years obesity and obesity related health complications have spurred America into action. While there are consumers out there who love their triple Whoppers with mystery meat and King sized fries, they are quickly becoming the minority. Healthy living is taking over and it is here to stay!

The Dramatic and Life Shattering Effects Of Alcohol Abuse

Friday, August 8th, 2008
by The Alternate Medic

The pressures of life present us all with trials and tribulations that we need to overcome. Unfortunately too many of us are now turning to what is perceived to be an instant relief that is found in consuming copious quantities of alcohol. The problem is that the relief is temporary when you wake up the next day you still have the same problems to face. Many people drink, and become alcoholics, to help them to forget their daily problems or even to seemingly ease the emotional pain they may be experiencing in their lives. They seek further solace in the blur of alcoholic haze.

As with the abuse and over indulgence in anything there are effects that appear unexpectedly the effects of alcohol abuse come in many forms. Some are emotional, some are physical, and some can even be financial. The reality is that the negative effects of alcohol abuse far outweigh any supposed benefits you may think that it brings to you.

In most cases the alcoholic may not realize one of the effects of alcohol abuse is the destruction of your emotional well being. Sometimes alcohol abuse can bring out the worst in a person. This abuse is more than likely directed towards your family and friends who can in most cases be counted on to stand by you in your hour of need. Naturally there is only so much physical and emotional abuse that your family and friends can take before they are forced to turn their back on you.

Usually your friends and family are your support structure; they will stand by you in good times and bad. Alcohol can lead to physically fighting with your friends and family and it can also lead to a loss of trust between you.

Do you really think there can be trust with somebody who is drunk all the time? In many cases the results are that your friends and family are either forced to abandon you to avoid you taking them down with you or they are forced to seek an intervention. Either of these results puts a great deal of strain on the relationships and can cause serious emotional damage.

Losing It All

When you become alcohol dependent you often find ways to grab a drink during your day at work this will reduce your productivity and in some cases endanger your being as you try to perform your tasks under the influence of alcohol. Most, if not all employers will automatically terminate drunk employees. Therefore loss of income is another effect of alcohol abuse and when you lose your job to the effects of alcohol it unleashes an entire series of terrible events. At some point you can no longer pay your bills, your home and car are likely to be repossessed, the family you have sworn to support has to leave to find a better way in life, and you are left with nothing.

Listen, without any exaggeration if you continue to abuse alcohol on a daily basis you stand to lose literally everything that you hold dear in your life and your road to recovery will be long and difficult.

Alcohol abuse is everywhere, look around you and you will see the suffering that it causes. The road to recovery is strewn with alcoholics whose lives have been ruined, not to mention all the pain and anguish suffered by family and friends. Recovery from alcohol abuse is not as easy as the movies and television portray it to be. It is a long and painful process. Many people try and fail at many times over before they finally do succeed..

Luckily, there is a way out of this terrible plight but it requires real strength and determination to dig your way out of this deep hole.

If you see a massage therapist, then they set the mood and ambience. If you have a chair, then it is in a room or office and others may or may be present. Benefits Of A Percussive Massage

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Chris Channing

A professional massage therapist is going to agree that there are many different styles and techniques is massages employed in even the most basic of massages. The percussive technique in particular is popular as an “opener” technique to get the client relaxed, blood flowing, and to relieve pressures that may be ailing the client.

It should be noted that, regardless of the common conception, there can be a proper percussive massage given by massaging products available to consumers. While they may not be as physically relaxing as a real massage from a masseuse, they are much cheaper and achieve the same goal- to give one more energy, a healthy lifestyle, and to keep the patient active in their everyday life.

Probably the most common percussive technique that most are familiar with is the “pummel” technique. This motion is going to allow for an increase in blood flow. Pummeling may sound like it wouldn’t be too luxurious of a massage, and this is correct. But opening techniques like this are necessary for making future techniques more able to cause comfort as a result of the increase in blood flow.

Starting techniques of a percussion massage will generally use the “hacking” technique. This technique loosens up the muscles, yet allows allows blood near the surface of the skin to migrate freely. Hacking isn’t exactly the best word for the technique, as it would describe an almost painful massage technique. Rest assured, hacking is going to be a neutral feel, and usually this technique is only used as a preparation technique for future techniques.

The back is going to be the best target for a percussive massage, since there is quite a bit of flesh, blood, and muscle to work with. Areas of the body that have more bone and less flesh are going to be more difficult, but they won’t be impossible. The feet, for example, are tough in this instance due to the lack of flesh. Hands are even more difficult, depending on one’s body mass index and their general physical layout.

Most massages will use techniques from many different styles. The average massage will use the percussive massage to start off, and then migrate to other techniques to get a deeper tissue massage. Regardless, the percussive techniques are vital in getting blood flowing, relieving tension, and relieving pressure. It is recommended that if a consumer should want to skip the masseuse, they obtain a G5 massage tool to handle the percussive elements for them.

Closing Comments

From here, consumers should think as to whether or not they want to obtain a tool to do the percussive massage, or waste money on an actual masseuse each week. The educated consumer should consult Internet retailers for more information on how they can reap the benefits of a percussive massage with less money in the long run.

Depression and Alcohol

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Ed Philips

It may seem that everywhere you turn in our society that alcohol plays a significant role. From many of our holidays and traditions, the availability and opportunity for alcohol is a reality. While drinking in moderating poses little or no threat, the trend of alcohol within the past few years is alarming. Not only are people drinking more, the age at which they begin drinking is getting younger and younger.

What effects exactly does alcohol have on the brain? Alcohol, along with other drugs like tranquillizers act directly as depressants on the brain. Since these drugs slow the brain down, they are needed in higher levels to produce the same results. In essence, the brain builds a tolerance to alcohol and alcohol effects are reduced. The cycle of alcoholism begins as the individual is forced to drink more to get to original effects alcohol once had on their mind and body and the need for alcohol only grows.

Alcohol can also cause;- 1) Dementia - In which we loose our memory, similar to Alzheimer’s dementia.

2)Psychosis - Nasty as you begin to hear voices.

3)Dependence - If you quit alcohol, withdrawal symptoms kick in and you will begin to experience shaking, nervousness and even seeing things that aren’t there.

4)Suicide - around 40% of men who have attempted suicide will have had a alcohol dependency related problem. - Almost 70% of suicide victims have done so while drunk.

There is no doubt to the correlation between depression and alcohol. Self affliction and suicide are common behaviors among people who are alcoholics. There is also evidence linking chemical changes within the brain that can effect emotions from consuming alcohol. It is only natural that depression would arise from the problems that drinking can create on family and personal relationships, work performance, and even diminished memory and sexual performance.

Alcohol will also help us in forgetting our problems, although only temporarily. We will feel much more relaxed and more confident when it comes to socializing. It’s an ideal tool for chatting and having fun and meeting other people, but once again this effect is only temporary.

Many people find an escape in alcohol or a way to help cope with the pressures in life without realizing the truth hidden at the bottom of the bottle. The real truth about alcohol is that it will develop into an addiction if it is allowed. You will become addicted to the way it makes you feel and soon your body too will become addicted to the way alcohol or the lack of alcohol has on it. If you have fallen victim to the dangers and negative effects of alcohol you must first recognize alcohol as the problem. By admitting it exists, you can deal with the challenge of overcoming your addiction. Resources such as stopdrinkingadvice, an online blog are helpful in their support and guidance.

Breast Lift: Should You Have One?

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Amy Nutt

Cosmetic surgery is rapidly becoming more popular for the average woman, particularly breast lifts. After a certain point in your life, you’ll find that your breasts begin to move southward and a few years later, most women are interested in doing something about that. Breast lifts aren’t for everyone, but they can be a good way to boost how you feel about yourself.

What Exactly Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is a relatively simple cosmetic procedure that removes the extra tissue and fat to lift breasts back into their natural position. However, it is a surgical procedure, so you will need to be healthy and without any underlying conditions in order to consider this procedure.

Who Has Breast Lifts

Women with larger breasts tend to have problems with drooping, particularly after the age of 30, but this isn’t an exclusive club. After having children and breastfeeding, most mothers experience some drastic changes in their breasts. Even fairly young women can experience this problem and while a good bra can certainly help give the impression of youthful perkiness, it’s not a permanent solution and doesn’t help when you are standing naked in front of the mirror.

That being said, it really does depend on your own self image. Some women are content with the changes in their bodies that come with age and the joy of bearing children. They accept that this is simply nature’s course. However, others feel that they would be happier with this small change to their outward appearance and are willing to do something about it.

Why You Might Consider a Breast Lift

If you are over the age of 30 and have noticed that your breasts are definitely starting to sag, it may be time to consider some help. Using a good supportive bra will aid in keeping the breast tissue from breaking down to some extent, but this solution won’t work forever and when the inevitable happens, you may find that you are willing to take more extreme measures to get that youthful look back.

For many women, their bodies are connected to their self esteem and sense of self worth. So, when things start to deteriorate, it can be a good time to consider looking into breast lifts. It can really help you feel better about yourself and improve your self esteem as you get older and find that your breasts, one of the most noticeable areas of the body, begin to sag.

Making the Decision

For some women, the decision to have a cosmetic surgery is a big one, while others will find that they decide quite easily. It is a good idea to research the benefits and possible risks before you make your decision and educate yourself on what to expect. Talking to other women who have had breast lifts can give you a good idea of what will happen before, during and after the procedure.

Why You Should Compare Water Treatment Systems Before You Buy

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Thomas Manso

The scary facts that are coming out regarding the safety and content of tap water has made the water treatment systems increase in popularity and become a priority in many households. Nevertheless, not all the available systems on the market are of the same quality or efficiency. It is important to compare these systems not only by cost, but by how safe and pure they make your water as well. We will need to take a quick look at the most popular systems and give you some insight on the pros and cons of each.

The most popular system is the pitcher system. Filtered pitchers are available at most grocery, drug, and department stores. While initially inexpensive, when the filter cost is factored in, this is actually the most expensive method of obtaining filtered water available. In addition, these filters only remove large particles such as sediment and lead, and leave in numerous chemicals and bacteria. While far better than tap water, these systems are not the most effective or cost-efficient.

If you want to compare water systems that work effectively, the two you need to look most closely at are reverse osmosis and multi-stage systems. Both of these systems provide far healthier water than either tap or filtered water. In the next few paragraphs we will examine the cost and effectiveness of each of these types of units.

Reverse osmosis water treatment systems work by passing water through a semi-permeable membrane that filters out anything larger than a water molecule. Because bacteria and chemicals are smaller than water molecules, these filters must also be used in conjunction with a carbon block filter.

Reverse osmosis systems do remove the majority of contaminants and impurities from water, but they also remove trace minerals like potassium and magnesium which are needed by the human body to maintain health. A factor to consider is that these systems waste about two gallons of water for every gallon that is purified. The price of these systems is in the range of 200 to 1,500 dollars going from just a kitchen unit to a whole house system. It cost about twenty-five cents per gallon of purified water.

Multi-stage water treatment systems work by passing water through a number of different patented filters. These systems remove almost all impurities while leaving in the valuable minerals your body needs. These systems remove chemicals, lead, rust, and even the chlorine that is added to all tap water.

Multi-stage systems cost about 150 dollars for a counter unit or 1,000 dollars for a whole house system. The total cost including filter replacement, which is only every three years, means you pay only about ten cents per gallon of water. These systems also produce far less waste than reverse osmosis systems.

In order to compare water treatment systems, we need to emphasize the distinctions between kitchen and whole house systems. Kitchen systems are very important because they clean and purify the water that you and your family drink, but whole house systems also purify the water in the most important room in your home, the bathroom where water toxins are taken in.

When you take a hot bath or shower, you not only absorb the toxins from your water into your blood through your pores, but you also inhale them in the water vapor you breathe. Almost all of the chemicals in your water are dispersed into the air in the form of water vapor. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you use a whole house water filtration system.

Concluding, we can tell you that water treatment systems are extremely beneficial. No matter what water system you choose, whether the recommended whole house system or simply a kitchen unit, cleaning and purifying your water is one of the noblest decisions you can take for your family’s sake. The presence of so many pollutants, carcinogens, and toxins in our tap water, makes it imperative for us to use a purification system to maintain health.

Alcohol Treatment Methods

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by The Alternate Medic

The first key to alcohol treatment is that it can only start when a person admits they have a problem and wants to seek help. In most cases, friends and family have pointed out to a person that there is problem there; maybe due to increases in relationship problems, or job problems or other problems where alcohol is getting in the way of life. Once the person is ready to accept that intervention is needed, there are various forms of alcohol treatment available.

Types of Alcohol Treatment

It you are diagnosed as not having a severe problem with alcohol addiction, doctors can help with basic outpatient care. The alcohol treatment for mild addictions may include hospital observation of the patient, to make sure nothing is seriously wrong. In some cases Tranquilizers are administered if the patient is dealing with anxiety issues or sleep loss. It is quite normal for a period of “drying out” to be advised by the doctor, which means no alcohol at all.

Luckily, for those suffering from a mild case of alcohol addiction there are several types of alcohol treatments that can be performed at home as well. Professionals recommend avoiding places and situations that make drinking a normal activity, such as bars or nightclubs. It is highly recommended that you join a support group, such as alcoholics anonymous, where there are other people like you going thru the same process.

Start exercising more and make your body healthy. A healthy person is more likely to abstain from drinking than one who is not. A final suggestion by health care professionals is to get involved in a hobby or community service. This replaces the negative thoughts associated with drinking and replaces them with something more positive.

In more severe cases where outpatient treatment doesn’t work or the degree of addiction is more severe, more serious forms of alcohol treatment are needed. Fortunately, there are many rehabilitation clinics around the country offering alcohol treatment programs. All have the same three goals, as determined by the American Society of Addiction Medicine; 1. provide a safe place for withdrawal from addiction, 2. provide patients with humane solutions to beat the addiction whilst retaining the patients dignity 3. prepare the patient for life after addiction.

Many alcohol treatment programs provide detailed, patient specific programs. Each addiction is different, so these centers usually provide personal treatment options designed for the certain level of addiction faced. In many cases, physical detox symptoms are so detrimental to patient’s health that drugs have to be used to quell them. Symptoms range from mild, like the shakes, to severe, or hallucinations.

It is widely agreed that alcohol dependency is a disease, it can be treated and there are many options available for people struggling with alcohol addiction. Self help at home; mild doctor intervention and alcohol treatment centers around the country are helping people help themselves to conquer their addiction..

People are very busy nowadays. Even if we know that we need to do something, we will say that we do not have the time to do so. However, we should be able to find the time to do so if we have the determination to do so.

Researches also show that exercising will help to keep our body healthy. Yet, the will still adapt the excuse of being too busy and you will not do any exercise at all. Here are some tips for you to find time to do exercises.

First of all, you should make exercising one of the most important thing in your schedule. You will never go exercising if you do not think it is important. You need to be extremely serious about it.

If it is possible, you should try to make exercising the first thing you do in the morning. It will be a lot easier for you to do exercise if you do so. This is because you will be disturbed easily when you are at work. The chance of being disturbed before you go to work is a lot lower.

Another way is to do exercises regularly after work. Again, you may walk for about 30 minutes after work. If it is possible, it is always a good idea to go home on foot. You may also consider going to gym. A lot of people will choose to go to the gym after work.

If you are the kind of person who will watch TV for a few hours every night. You should consider turning it off for an hour. You have to understand the fact that it is only an excuse to say that you are too busy. If you are just busy watching TV, you should watch less and start exercising.

You may invite your friends to do exercises with you if it is really possible. If you know that your friends will do exercises with you, you will probably treat exercising as your social activity and you will then have the motivation to do it.

It is very important for you to develop the habit of exercising everyday. To this end you should try to enjoy exercising. You will not be able to enjoy it if you do not love it!

Simple and Effective Natural Treatments For Eczema

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Niaomi Masters

Eczema is a challenging skin condition for many people around the globe. The itchy, flaky rashes affect as much as 20% of the world’s children, and perhaps half of these individuals will continue to have symptoms throughout their lives. Conventional medicine doesn’t offer a cure as of yet, though some support is available through corticosteroid creams and ointments. For many eczema sufferers, and often severe eczema sufferers, conventional treatments are not enough to provide satisfactory relief. There is growing evidence however, that the treatments offered by natural medicine may provide dramatic relief for a majority of these folks. Internal cleansing and topical use of therapeutic oils can combine to create an effective healing regimen for those most affected by eczema. These modalities can reduce internal levels of toxins thought responsible for many eczema outbreaks, and provide welcome healing for inflamed and irritated skin.

Many people have had great success with using therapeutic essential oil blends topically; essential oils and accompanying carrier oils can be exceptionally healing to a great variety of skin ailments, eczema included. Oils can provide short-term relief for many, though healing chronic conditions will likely require addressing the toxins in one’s environment, modifying lifestyle choices, and employing the cleansing practices of natural medicine. Here we’ll have a look at topical essential oil formulas from the medical aromatherapy literature, and review effective suggestions for internal and holistic natural treatments.

Essential oils have profound healing effects when the right oils are selected and properly applied. The blends for eczema are simple, and can provide nearly immediate relief of symptoms. For dry eczema, use this recipe to make one ounce of your formula: 20 drops of Lavender essential oil, 20 drops of Palmarosa essential oil, one-quarter ounce of Tamanu oil and three-quarters of an ounce of Rosehip seed oil. For children under five, use only one drop of each essential oil per year of age, if over five use two drops. Lavender is a wonderful oil for the relief of itching, and is even prescribed ‘neat’ (undiluted) for simple relief of itchy skin. It has a gentle, soothing effect, with anti-inflammatory and regenerative actions. Palmarosa is a pleasant smelling yet potent anti-microbial and anti-viral essential oil often used in skin care. Tamanu oil is a tropical nut oil highly regarded for its ability to calm and regenerate the skin, and Rosehip seed has been extensively studied for its healing and regenerative properties. This is a powerful yet gentle therapeutic blend that can be applied three to four times daily to relieve itchiness and stimulate skin regeneration.

For weeping eczema, the therapeutic blend is modified to use Thyme essential oil, thujanol chemotype (note that there are several types of Thyme available), and Eucalyptus citradora, otherwise known as Lemon Eucalyptus. This is a more potent anti-infectious blend of essential oils, still in the soothing base oils of Tamanu and Rosehip. Again use 20 drops of each essential oil in each one-quarter ounce of Tamanu and three-quarter ounce of Rosehip seed. Again, the concentration should be reduced for young ones.

For long-term relief, finding the true cause of the eczema is important. For many, it can be toxins in their environment they are continually exposed to. One mother reported success in healing the eczema of her seven month old by switching from chlorinated and fluoridated city tap water to distilled water. Another person whom visited a naturopath began filtering the chlorine from her water, and followed the ‘Eat Right For Your Blood Type’ diet (which among other things improves the immune response and lessens inflammation), again with much success. In general, natural health professionals advise the importance of reducing stress levels, improving the body’s acid/alkaline balance, supporting the immune system, decreasing the inflammatory response, and cleansing the liver, kidneys and colon.

It sounds like a lot, but many practices will promote more than one aspect of health. Cleaning up the diet, reducing processed foods and increasing intake of fresh organic vegetables will go a long way. Vegetable juice, when squeezed at home or at the juice bar (rather than bottled or canned varieties) moves the pH to a more alkaline level, and helps cleanse the system. Just drinking the juice of a single lemon in a glass of warm water first thing each morning will alkalize the blood and support the liver in toxin removal. Cleansing may be crucial to eczema sufferers, as the health of the skin is considered an indicator of the body’s toxicity level. Clear skin means a clear liver; allergic skin reaction can mean the internal organs of elimination are overloaded, and response of eczema is really the toxicity ’spilling over’ to the skin. If you feel your body is in need of a real cleanse, seek the support and advice of a knowledgeable natural health practitioner to learn the most healthful and effective means to do this for yourself.

Consider making incremental changes to your lifestyle, continually moving toward optimal natural health. A naturopath will encourage you to only make one or two changes ever few weeks, so that you’re not overwhelmed with them, and are more likely to make them habits for the long term. A few additional easy changes to consider, that can have a profound impact on symptomatic relief: Adding a significant daily dosage of essential fats from distilled fish oil or hemp oil. These important fats cannot be made by the body, and play a crucial role in modulating immune response — get them in bulk bottles, rather than capsules which don’t really offer large enough quantities. Next, try at least two months worth of a high-quality probiotic supplement, one that offers six or more strains of healthy bacteria for your digestive system. These types of supplements have been shown specifically to help eczema sufferers. If you’re not working out regularly now, take the implementation of some sort of movement routine into serious consideration — it will help immensely in your overall well-being and more than likely improve symptoms as well. And a couple of easy ones: try finding nettle leaf tea in bulk and drink a couple of cups a day — nettles are highly regarded in Naturopathy for their anti-allergy effects among other benefits; finally, try significantly increasing the amount of clean pure water you’re drinking daily. Much of the population is chronically dehydrated, and those with eczema may benefit dramatically from nature’s most important nutrient.

Face Lifts: Out of Hollywood and Into Your Life

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Amy Nutt

For decades, the rich and famous were the only ones who could consider having a costly operation such as a face lift done. Celebrities were the most common clients of Hollywood surgeons, paying huge fees to enhance their looks so they could continue acting in youthful roles. However, those days are gone and it is now possible for the average person to get a face lift without spending a fortune and mortgaging the house.

Back when face lifts were the height of new techniques, they were exceedingly expensive and it was difficult to find a surgeon who had experience with them. These days, any plastic surgeon can do a face lift and make it look great and natural. It’s considered a fairly minor surgery now, as well, and recovery times are far faster.

Everyday people are starting to look at common procedures like this as normal and it is completely acceptable for a man or woman to have their looks enhanced and returned to that youthful tightness with a face lift. While no one needs to know that you’ve had the procedure done, you will certainly get a lot of compliments on how great you look!

Advantages of Face Lifts

There are many reasons to get a face lift and they aren’t restricted to women . . . many men have found it beneficial to have a face lift done, as well.

Tighten sagging skin. With age, the elasticity of our skin begins to diminish, resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles. A face lift effectively removes excess skin and brings everything back up to where it ought to be. Bring out your bone structure. Most people who have a good facial bone structure lose this because of the changes in their skin as they age. Tightening the skin with a face lift helps enhance those contours and bring out your cheekbones, etc. that were once the highlight of your face. You have options. Not all face lifts are serious operations. There are laser face lifts and mini (weekend) face lifts, as well, for less serious skin sagging. Look thinner. One of the signs of age in the face is a build-up of fat deposits that can make your face look softer and older than it really is. This also adds to your perceived weight, even if you aren’t overweight. A face lift will remove some of this fat to help give your face a leaner appearance. Gain self confidence. Celebrities often opt for a face lift to continue with the great movie roles. While you may not be trying out for a Stephen Spielberg film any time soon, it can still be a big confidence booster to be able to look in the mirror and see a younger version of yourself again.

From being the secret of Hollywood stars to a common procedure done by anyone, face lifts have come into their own over the past decade. It’s now something that you don’t have to be a super star to have done. Boosting your self confidence and looking beautiful no matter what your age is now possible for anyone with a desire to do so.

Face lift surgery has many advantages and since it has become so common, the risks, which are always present with surgery, are minimized. Every plastic surgeon has been well-trained in face lift techniques, so it’s not just something for Hollywood stars anymore. Now you can look great and take years off your face, too.

Obtaining Inversion Tables To Solve Back Pains

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Chris Channing

Back pain is one of the most recognized types of chronic conditions out there. Sadly, there is little relief for those who suffer from the many different conditions that cause back pain, except for some types of surgery and alternative medicine. Alternative medicine has shown to be helpful, however, with the advent of the inversion table.

An inversion table is going to allow those with back pain to hang at a slanted angle, or even completely upside down. The idea is to relieve pressure on the vertebrae, and overall increase flexibility. An inversion table will allow for immediate pain release, since gravity is often a contributor to the pain one experiences in an average case of back pain.

Surgery is another option for anyone with chronic back pain. Depending on the condition, one may need to have surgical work done on their spinal column, have reconstructive surgery, or even realign muscles or ligaments. All of these options sound scary compared to the easier method of just using an inversion table, not to mention the latter alternative is going to be much less expensive.

The most simple solution to an advanced problem will often present. Sometimes the only reason one is experiencing chronic back pain is because of a lack of blood flow to key areas in the back. With the proper angle in an inversion table, blood flow can be maximized and pain will be subdued so that the consumer can live a normal life again.

Studies show that those who have tried out the inversion table will, as the majority of opinions stand, give at least some relief to the owner of the inversion table. Most said that immediate relief and an overall pleasant feeling is commonly exhibited when using the machine. How long this effect lasts differs based on the condition and usage, although many say it’s well worth using the inversion table on a daily basis.

Because there is so much selection in the inversion table industry, it can be tough to pick out the right table for one’s specific needs. Those who are younger and have more need of an extreme solution should opt for models that hang users upside down by special boots, while the rest should look into more mainstream methods that can be used by younger adults and the elderly.

In Conclusion

The Internet is a bustling marketplace of health products, and if one thinks that he or she would make proper use of an inversion table, consulting Internet retailers is the best solution.

Can Using An Infrared Sauna Help Vitamin D Deficiency?

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
by Michelle Riley

Vitamin D deficiency is pretty serious. It affects your bones, skin, teeth, even your happiness and vitality - that’s why it’s always important to make sure you’re getting enough. So is it possible that using an infrared sauna can help supply your body with this vital nutrient? After much careful research, this article will give you the answer and tell you what you need to know in order to ensure you’re getting your required dose.

To start, here’s a short rundown of how vitamin D benefits your body:

- it’s essential for the health of your bones

- your body cannot absorb calcium without it

- it boosts your immunity against cancerous activity

- studies have shown that it plays a role in preventing: several types of cancer, including breast & prostate, depression, diabetes, even multiple sclerosis

And that’s not everything - as you’ll see, vitamin D is a seriously important nutrient. A deficiency can take a severe toll on your health, particularly in the very young (rickets) and the elderly (osteoporosis). If it is more mild, symptoms may include sluggishness, fatigue, and sallow skin and hair. So it’s clear that an adequate supply of vitamin D is vital to your well-being.

So, can you get vitamin D from an infrared sauna? In short: most of your vitamin D intake comes from sunshine, which your skin produces when directly exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Sunlight also contains infrared rays in addition to UV rays and visible light - infrared heat accounts for the warmth you feel while standing in the sun, and has no harmful effects. Infrared heat is the ONLY type used in an infrared sauna. Essentially, it is through UV - and not infrared - light that your body makes vitamin D, so while you will experience sweat detoxification, healing warmth, increased circulation and a host of other health benefits from using an infrared sauna, it isn’t a source of vitamin D.

What are good sources of vitamin D? Ultraviolet light supplies 90% of your intake, so experts recommend spending about 10-15 minutes twice a week in the sunshine. But don’t forget the sunscreen - UV rays have an adverse effect after too much time, and put you at risk for skin cancer and sun damage. Sunblock will protect you, but the SPF will not allow your body to absorb vitamin D - so apply it only once you’ve gotten enough direct exposure. Don’t forget that the other 10% of your D intake comes from diet, so so stock up on supplements or shop for nutrient rich sources like mushrooms, fish, and fortified milk.

So, in the end, infrared sauna use is not a solution for vitamin D deficiency - there’s simply no substitute for sunshine. To ensure the best intake, spend enough time outdoors and fill your menu with nutrient-rich foods. And if you are seeking a boost to your overall well-being, check out infrared sauna therapy as a great accompaniment for a healthy lifestyle!
